Temporary passports and emergency travel documents outside Canada

These fees are for Canadians abroad paying for a temporary passport or emergency travel document.

Temporary passports and emergency travel documents don't replace your regular ones. They're valid only for urgent, proven travel situations or residency requirements determined by the consulate or embassy.

Only pay these fees if a Government of Canada consulate or embassy has told you to.

All prices are in Canadian dollars.

5-year adult passport (age 16 and up) and temporary passport

This fee includes the cost of a temporary passport and a 5-year adult passport.

10-year adult passport (age 16 and up) and temporary passport

This fee includes the cost of a temporary passport and a 10-year adult passport.

Child passport (age 0 to 15) and temporary passport

This fee includes the cost of a temporary passport and a child passport.

Pay this fee only if you applied and paid for your regular passport but don't have it yet (5-year adult, 10-year adult or child passport).

Pay this fee only if you aren’t able to access or use your existing passport as confirmed by a consulate or embassy. Other conditions may apply.

Adult emergency travel document (age 16 and up)

Fee for an emergency travel document for Canadians living outside Canada.

The document is valid for 1 trip:

  • a direct return trip to Canada
  • a return trip to your country of residence
  • a trip to a location where full passport services are available

Fee for an emergency travel document for Canadian children living outside Canada.

Certified true copy

1 to 3 copies of a passport or travel document.

Pay this fee only if you've been instructed to do so by one of the Government of Canada consulates or embassies abroad.

Replace a valid lost or stolen passport

Fee which must be paid after reporting a passport as lost or stolen and applying for a replacement. Does not include the cost of the new passport.

Retention of a valid passport

Pay this fee only if you've been instructed to do so by one of the Government of Canada consulates or embassies abroad to keep using your current valid passport while we process your replacement
